Campfire restrictions lifted in BWCAW

Campfires and charcoal- and wood-burning stoves are again permitted across the Superior National Forest, due to cooler temperatures and shorter days.

All areas of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness are also open again, with areas that had been closed to travel due to wildfires re-opened.

A year ago this week, the largest fire in Minnesota’s recorded history burned about 93,000 acres in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Today, the forest is getting green again at a remarkable pace.
